"Do you think I should configure all the modules for VESA compatibles rather than using RCPADI and the Matrox RCMGA for Main and Render Display? I don't seem to get many colours if I do it that way…" You should use the RCPADI if it works. You'll still be able to render to lots of colors with VESA, although you won't be able to view them.

I get "impression" that the Impression+ is minus 3DS performance. Should it be avoided? -Scott

"I get "impression" that the Impression+ is minus 3DS performance. Should it be avoided?" Sorry – I was out for a week. You are right – the Impression Plus is not directly supported by 3DS; you have to run it in the VESA compatible mode, which people report is slower. However, this card has been frequently requested and may be on the next release of the Vibrant drivers. They could be here in the next week or so, uploaded as VIB3DS.ZIP. If it's supported, you probably have a good card.

I have just tried it on a 2 meg Impression Plus (configured as an Ultima Plus) and got error 2301 No MGA found… VESA works okay though.

Thanks – I'll be ordering 2 more megs, then I'll have a 4meg. Can't imagine that it would change my results. Interesting; thanks for the feedback.

"I have just tried it on a 2 meg Impression Plus (configured as an Ultima Plus) and got error 2301 No MGA found… VESA works okay though." Our QA department was unable to reproduce my problems, so I looked at this a little more critically – I have a file during bootup which was causing the problem. Although I haven't yet narrowed it down, I find that a clean boot (F5 during the bootup) allows me to run the Impression Plus with the new set of Vibrant drivers in our QA. Looks like I can run either as Ultima Plus or the Impression Plus. Very impressive!

Thanks Nik. Actually, I haven't bought it due to negative comments here and on Matrox BBS. But I'd like to hear from other users of MGA Impression+. -Scott

Hi Scott – now that I got my Impression Plus working (using the latest drivers Vibrant sent to our QA department, I feel good about the card. I haven't done any testing; I'm just glad to see it working!

Thanks for the info, Nik. I'd be curious to hear your opinion once you've had a chance to check out the Impression. -Scott
