#PC PAR–IFFs & LightWave

If?when the PC version of Lightwave is released (April) will the PC LW be able
to render directly to PAR (as with the Amiga version previously). Will this be
available immediately? Does the PC PAR accept only Targa or other formats,
particularly IFFs, RGBs.
Also is PAR available in either NTSC or PAL, or BOTH–or is there a NTSC
to PAL or PAL to NTSC loader/saver?
What is the best way to get a properly configured PAR, TBC set-up (if
buying a new PC) to save on hassles and insure immediate working. (in
LosAngeles or Seattle areas—I'm based in London and UK "expert" repairmen,
with help from DPS supposedly destroyed my Amiga PAR and TBC which had been
configured in LA) I need a new PAR fast to handle 50,000 frames (IFF) of
animation stuck on Exabyte tapes–and need it fast.

24 or 32 bit Targa only, either compressed or uncompressed.

There are separate versions for NTSC and PAL.

There are many good dealers around, two in those particular areas are Kevin
Krell at CSA in Los Angeles at (310) 820-4004 or Dan Kemmis at NW Tech in
Seattle at (206) 641-3282.

Thanks for the info Greg? I will switch my LW output to Targa–but what
program can I use on the PC to convert my IFF-RGBs to Targas? (I am new to the
PC world–though I could convert on the Amiga with AdPro then send the files
over.)
I haven't decided on how to get the files over: TCP/IP, via a large PC
formatted disk, or null modem. Alternatively, have you heard of any agencies
state-side that RELIABLY transfer Amiga backed=up Exabyte tapes of Iffs to PC
readable Exabyte? Thanks for the help. Chris

Image Alchemy, from Handmade Software (510) 252-0101 will do that.

I'd use TCP/IP.

Is there a difference in the format? I don't think so, if you save a 'tar'
file from the Amiga I'm sure I can read it on our UNIX systems on the net and
write out anything from there. I'd be happy to try a few frames as a test if
you want!

Thanks Greg. On a net reading file is/or shouldn't be a problem–I havent set
up the network yet (the experts I know crashed a local film studio net trying
to set up TCP/IP with Amigas, MIPs, and SGIs–so I have put it off.) The
agencies for file transfer in London to convert my Amiga written Exabytes to PC
written charge $1500 set-up and $450 an Exabyte tape–in the US I have heard it
is $250. But with dozens of tapes, it is not the best way to spend my
money–and they are slow…I just have to find a competent network person and
my problems would be greatly reduced.
