#Hip Roof Mapping

I have been trying to properly map a hip roof object using a shingles.jpg map
and can't get the right look. Do I need to detach the front, back, left, and
right and apply a planar map to all four sides or can I do it in one operation.

Two approaches work –
Apply from the top to parallel sides, rotate 90 degrees and apply to the other
parallel sides.
Or apply at an angle to each sloped plane.
Believe it or not, there will be very little difference and the first method is
_much_ easier to perform and adjust. Hint on applying mapping though – do it
ONLY at the object level, since you can never acquire mapping assigned at the
element level.
Also, Box mapping will not work too well for this application.

I'm doing home exteriors, right now just for fun. May I ask why you are
interested?

My intrest lies in the fact that you are doing residential work, our
program Parametric Estimating is designed for Residential
Architectural/Construction, and simulates construction in 3D from 2D
input. A "fly through" is in the Autodesk Showcase under New Files
(Propose.zip) This model does not have the surfaces turned on,
however the program generates all of the surfaces, and we are working
on the automatic mapping of materials in 3DS.
I didn't know if you were a programer or a user, so I thought I would
drop you a line.
