To All,
I have a friend who has an Amiga computer. He states that he cannot connect
his system to CompuServe. I find this hard to believe. Is this true?

not true. Your friend can access CIS with any terminal program. Try 7-E-1 for
the serial port settings.
If your friend wants to use CIS more frequently it would be much better to use
AutoPilot, though. This is an offline reader for the Amiga that saves pretty
much of connect time and therefore money. It's commercial and you can download
it on CIS only. GO AMIGAVENDOR, Lib 9, filename AP.LHA. Be sure to download the
docs, too. Files APDOCS.ASC for plain ASCII and CHANGE.LHA for latest news
should do. It much less fun without them. You will get a working demo that you
can register online if you like it.

Just FYI, AutoPilot connects at 8N1 and I'd highly suggest that you do not use
7E1.
I know <g>, but the question refered to the use of _any_ terminal program in
the first place. I couldn't resist to recommend AutoPilot, though.

Absolutely not true. All your friend needs is a modem and terminal
emulation software.
What your friend may have heard is that there is no comprable software
to WinCIM (DOSCIM, MacCIM) for the Amiga. The reason for that is because
Compuserve hasn't released the libraries required for the Amiga.

But we Amigans DO NOT need CIM stuff. AutoPilot is far much better. For CI$ are
better because you have longer connection times 😎

I connect my Amiga to Compuserve dozens of times a day. He has to have some
kind of terminal program, and some work better than others – and he has to have
a modem – preferably a Hayes compatible one. If he has an Amiga 1000, he
cannot use the usual serial cable, but has to have a special one made up. All
later Amigas can use any regular serial cable.
