#not getting 14,400

I can't seem to get 14,400 out of my Supra 228 when logging on to CIS with AP.
I dial the 14,400/9600 number; I have AP set to 14,400 with link speed of
19,200, but when I log on to CIS, the modem indicates only 9600.
Am I missing something?

The link speed of 19.2K should work. Any chance that you have modem parameter
set to limit connection to 9600 or less?
Also, have you tried multiple times in a short period of time (ensuring that
the rotory likely gives you a different modem several times)? Another
suggestion would be to try a different node (just for testing purposes of
course).
Also, try a local bbs that has 14.4K if possible. You might just have a
marginal telephone line.

Some modems (like my ZyXEL) allow either to use fixed baud rates or locking on
any rate in range according to the answer the remote sends to you. Look into
the manual for the correct AT commands. You might try to fix your Supra to
14.400 for AP and see what happens.

I investigated the modem parameters a bit more closely, asking the modem how it
was set… It had the max baud rate set to 9600! So, I put the 14400 setting
into the AP initialization string, before the dial command, and sure enough, I
got a 14400 hookup! 🙂
