#EGS Problems..AARRGG!

Re: EGS.
Ok. I wanna know the real story if anyone has it. I've got EGS 7.1 running on
a GVP spectrum board. Its in an A2000 rev 4.4 board w/ a Zeus '040, Emplant,
toaster, WB 2.1, 16 mb of ram. TV Paint runs kinda funky, and the emplant runs
fine on it. Any sort of WB or program promotion, be it Newmode or whatever
seems to crash the system whenever a window is moved or resized. It irritates
the crap out of me. I've got the cybergraphics software, but it needs
kickstart 3.0. I was thinking of getting WB 3.1, but I've heard horror
stories about compatability problems! I just wanna know if there is any way to
get this beast to work…you know…as advertised.

Archie,
don't know about EGS (using a PicassoII myself), sorry, but you said

I don't think there are real problems, except maybe with some hacks disguised
as games <g>. From my experience, everything that worked with 2.x+ will also
work under 3.1. This includes WordPerfect (though I have switched to
FinalWriter now). The very few games I play from time to time work well, too.
This includes Frontier and SimCity as well as a number of (even) older items.

Hey Joachim from Germany!
You mentioned your Picasso, but do you have an A2000 running WB 3.1?

Hi Archie,
yes indeed, I'm running 3.1 on my Rev 6.0 A2000/030 without problems.

Arthur: Right now, I have CyberGraphics installed for the Spectrum card.
But before that, I was running the EGS 7.1 software with very few problems
as well. Don't know why your machine is crashing when a window is moved or
resized because I didn't have that problem.
There is a patch for TVPaint to make it work properly with 7.1. I believe
without the patch, TVPaint will crash when you try to save an image to the
drive. If you or anyone else needs the patch uploaded, let me know and
I'll do it.

Thanks John,
I may get WB 3.1 since I hear everyone praising it, & since it may solve my EGS
screen promotion problem. Incidently, the TVPaint Update your talking about is
for TV Paint jr. I don't have a problem saving images, just that the tablet
support is dated & I get poor pressure sensitivity; also a wierd Cusor trailing
effect in 24 bit mode. TVPaint 3.0 is available from Activa, but I just saw
Village Tronic have an ad for 2.0 Wierd stuff! Thanks for the tip anyway.

Arthur,
I have a similar but not not exact setup as you. 2000 6.0 motherboard and
GVP 030 combo. Also the spectrum board. I ran EGS 7.1 and I also found
several, unexplained crashes. It had nothing to do with the OS as I was using
3.1. I tried many different things and just couldn't stop the random crashes.
Lock up when moving windows, lock up when clicking on a gadget, etc. My final
solution was to put the EGS board in my 3000. No crashes, no lock ups. Go
figure.
This doesn't sound like much hope but there it is. There is a program on
the board here that will let you run cybergraphicss and EGS concurrently. Might
be the ticket. Use EGS to run EGS apps and cybergraphics for WB. Sorry I can't
help more. Oh, GET 3.1. I found it to be a very bug free. Yes there were a
few things that didn't run. Mostly old things. Very, very few games didn't
work. If that is a major issue get a rom switcher and have both worlds. This
is an Amiga you're talking about after all!!

I used to work for a dealer here in NY. EGS worked in screen promotion on
3000's & 4000's. Accelerated A2000 were always weird. I've got Cybergraphics,
but I need 3.1. I saw the program to run both EGS & Cybergraphics. But the
fact remains that it may still not work on the A2000. I wonder how the Picasso
fares against EGS.

The problems where with instaling! So, do a backup first, then tryout the
Rom(s) before you install the System Diskettes.
