None of it gets the kind of outraged press the NEA and Andres Serrano et al
get. Sure, I see the Pig Book (whatever it's called, I can't remember) and so
on, but there's never the kind of RAGE that you see over "Piss Christ" – 1
single solitary photograph.

that's because the "Piss Christ" photograph attack'd peoples faith, something
that is VERY personal. I'm sure you remember the Iran Iraq war. It was about
faith. I was very outraged that MY money was going to some little prick to
paint and display that TRASH. If he/she wants to paint it, them by all means
paint it, just don't expect me to pay you to do it!

The reason that the NEA should be killed is to keep the government from making
decisions about what is faith and what is not.

Now that's an interesting argument. I haven't heard that exactly before.
However, the rebuttal is to require the NEA to follow the same strictures that
all other government activity must follow: prevent it from funding any
faith-related activity.

No, it's a human thing. Anyone who tries to offend as many people as possible,
as deeply as possible, WITH THEIR OWN MONEY TAKEN FROM THEM BY FORCE, has no
right whatsoever to complain he isn't properly appreciated. But as I pointed
out, he got off lightly. Just ask Salmon Rushie. <G>
