I think you're right on target. The way the economy is going, it is only a matter of time before a cataclysmic failure. Business keeps making plans on past sales results, while they are cutting the workforce, and those workers end up with lower paying jobs. Thus not having the disposable income to by product x, this will cause more lay-offs and the cycle will continue until it just grinds to a halt. How many Mexican workers at the big-3 plants down there can afford to by one of the cars they help put together? The way it is going with the electronic crackdown, it's only a matter of time before some father and son get life in prison on child porn charges, because they exchanged the time honored `naked baby at play/beach/bathtime/etc' picture of the grandchild. The law makes no distinction. Matt Straney, 3 hours late, without your luggage from Grand Ledge — on AutoPilot ——–>

Matthew, Interesting observation on how the old economic norms no longer work: Conventional wisdom among economists is that as the dollar weakens against the yen, US exports to Japan should rise, and imports decline. Well, the dollar is weaker than ever — much more so than a decade ago when the economists knowingly predicted our balance of payments problem would soon ease as Japanese businesses couldn't further cut margin. More pertinent, Americans now prefer many Japanese goods at any price. Whoops!
