VideoDirector provides a very clumsy solution. An AVer capture card and scan
converter. Not very good. I have a great card for VD, GVP GLOCK+ VGA. I have it
bundled with prime time titling software for under $500. If you want, give me

Gary, could you go into this a little more. In what ways is the GVP product
less clumsy? Does GVP have other advantages over a 'souped up' VD 2.0?
What role does VD 2.0 play for the prosumer?

To clarify
With a captur card and scan converter, you get a system that provides poor
overlay and that is both internal (the capture card) and external (the scan
converter). Most people want it one way or the other, not both.
The crux of the problem is Gold Disks love affair with PICONS. Captured
images to represent each scene. I guess this is to give the system an "ADOBE"
non-linear appearance. Frankly, I prefer a long description and EDL. 2.0 still
supports this option.
If you want PICONS and overlay, I have come across a very interesting
new product. Hauppauge Win celebrity with overlay output option and VD 2.0. I
have a meeting with their marketing people next month. If it works as good as
it looks, expect it to be available from us this spring (I think its gonna cost
about $600.
Yes, I'd like both an EDL and Picons. I first poop pooped Apple and Windows
until I used them. Then I found icons to be of value. I still prefer dos
command line for many things but I also like the graphics. I guess I'd have
to experience it both ways to be in a position to reach a decision. I
suspect however that such a decision is likely to be personal preference
rather than an clear cut conclusion.
Hope you see the DTV Handbook thread. I just posted a long message to Mr.
Solomon about this. And I'm interested in what you have to say about Studio
Magics' Video Magic as sell as DV Studio. Gold Disk tech support today said
that ANY MCI compatible card with video overlay and output would work. They
have good success with Orchid's Videola Pro. Have you used this card?
