I'm tearing out my hair (and online budget) trying to get IBM-compatible
hardware advice. E.g., which would be preferable for capture and editing: a
486DX2-80, a DX4-100, or a P75? Are 16 megs of RAM sufficient? Do you need 1
or 2 megs on your video card? How about the best video boards? If I can't find
this kind of information in this forum, where should I look?

Please specify your requirement rather than products on your hit list.
Will you be producing compressed files for cdrom or only editing out to a vhs
recorder?
How many input sources will you have? what type? vhs, 8mm betamax?
Do you want to morph or only add titles and maybe modify colour mixes slightly?
Home video or semi-professional?

Oh I forgot what's your budget?
Timothy my advice has always been to buy as much hardware as you can afford,
especially with "power-user" applications in mind.
16MBs of RAM should be a good start if you run under the Windows OS, and a
video card that can (quickly) do 800x600x24bit should be adequate for most DTV
applications.
