#Sony MPC Fix?

Has anyone heard of the rumor that Sony is coming out with a new Sony-Bus
interface card for the older 6201 and 7205 CDROM drives with small 8K
buffers which will enable them to meet the data transfer rate equivalent to
the MPC 64K buffer data transfer rate? I hear it might be availbale around
June or July. Who's got some tidbits of information? Cheers, Keith.
To add to the rumor mill, I've heard there is a company developing a
software solution — it's a special disk cache (like SMARTDRV) that works
only with the CD-ROM, thus increasing the total buffer from 8K to anything
you want.

Bryan, I have just purchased the DAK cdrom (BSR/SONY?) and when running the
MME found the sound gap problem, but I also am running Lantastic network,
and their CDROM option does some kind of buffering and the sound-gaps go
away and everything runs smoothly. One catch is that when using the server
(with the cdrom as drive E), I logon to myself which makes the cdrom Drive
H:. Everything seems to work very nicely with MME…. I am very pleased
with the drive & software.

Thanks for the information. We're going to set up a Lantastic network for
one fo the groups at DAK. We'll probably add a couple of CD-ROM drives,
too.
