Wow!
now that you mention it, it seems obvious(ly correct). Sure looked like a
paper burn or sumpm to me.
That reminds me of a question, and this is open to anybody. What
paint/touch-up software should I be considering down the line for 24-bit
images (generated by 3DS). I hated Tempra Pro, (okay, okay mike I know you
are listening). And TIPS seems kinda hard to use. How is Sable, and is it
expensive? How about RIO, etc.

I'd have to disagree. TIPS is very EASY to use. So is Sable, with
a very similar interface (developed by Mathematica, who brought us Tempra &
Tempra Pro). If you want to go the Windows route, you could use
PhotoStyler from Aldus. RIO is object-oriented, so not appropriate for
paint purposes.

I know, many people have brought that to my attention. It just proves that
what looks empirically correct isn't always technically accurate.
Sorry, but I don't have enough experience with 24-bit paint software to
really answer your other question.

Well, Anil, we have had quite a bit of experience with 24 bit paint
programs and, for what it's worth, are highly opinionated on the subject
<g>. TIPS is a good product IF you can get enough VMX memory to properly
compliment the software. For us, that was a problem slot-wise. SABLE is
Horrible! (Sorry, Kevin). Just using "Undo" is a nightmare of menu
switching. For the price, I guess it'll do, but if you really want a
program that will give you everything you'll need, it's gotta be LUMENA.
No sane person will dispute this <g>….
By the way, depending on the features you are seeking, you should also
evaluate QFX from Ron Scott. Comments, anyone?

Ken,
I got no swuawk with about Sable. It's ok for a Targa, but I'm
nowhere near as quick with it as TIPS. TIPS is more powerful on the Vista,
but you're correct about the VMX requirement. Lumena is even more powerful
(& doesn't need VMX), but a bitch to use (I hate systems with commands on a
different screen than the image). Digital Arts Paint makes the best use of
the 34010 processor (I believe it was originally developed at Truevision,
previewed, then dropped <Truevision's primarily a hardware company> and
then licensed to Digital Arts). Hi-Res QFX, not that has a paint tool, is
certainly responsive, and has a lot of other useful features.

The second screen comment is, of course, the most frequent concerning
Lumena or, for that matter, Crystal 3D. It _made_ Topas <g>. and I
agree… I am not familiar with the Digital Arts program but assumed
everything they made needed transputers (that's just a joke…) Actually, I
know QFX is an "image processor", but I usually consider it a tool in our
"paint" arsenal as well.

If you didn't like tips you will not like sable. Sable is a tips clone
written by Mathmatica and marketed by GSL. I personally use PhotoStyler on
my VGA and TIPS on the targa w/ Hi-Res QFX or sometimes RIO.

Thanx for the input. I think I am going to go with Lumena. Now, I have to
find the money!
