To go direct, call up CBM in West Chester, and bluff your way in. Say you're a big distributor and want to talk to their marketing people. Or closer to the truth, tell them you're a dealer and your distributor is giving you the shaft. That should get their attention, and get you to someone who's at least close to the right department. Bull your way in. It can be done, and we all need it… Thinking about it, this promotion is more than stupid. Why are they doing it? Probably because so many people have discovered alternatives such as the Sony KV-1311CR, CPD-1201, KV-20XBR, Atari 520ST monitor, NEC Multisync, etc. Commodore must be upset that they are selling so few monitors compared to CPUs. Ok. So they come up with a deal where you can't buy a CPU without a monitor? I assume that I could walk in and ask for the CPU alone, but then you'd be forced to charge me full price, so I might as well get the monitor, since it's free. What this means is that people are going to be >forced< to use the arguably inferior 1080 monitor. If I had been planning to buy an Amiga and a Sony KV-20XBR at the same time, and get a computer, monitor and an excellent TV all in one deal, I would be justifiably pissed at this development. (That's exactly what I did — bought an Amiga and an XBR, for exactly those reasons). You can argue "But now you can buy the Amiga and the XBR, and get a 1080 thrown in, for the same price!" Yes, but, that seems wasteful, somehow distasteful… – Bela

Bela – I have a SONY KV1311CR that I bought for 2 reasons: 1 you and others on CIS convinced me with your discussion that it was a wise choice and 2 my wife said,"OH if it's a great TV I'll pay half." We were told by distribution that the reason for promotion is over- stock on CPU's, but as a dealer we are overstocked on monitors. I suspect that the monitor is the overstocked item and since it doesn't get favorable reviews very often, it is being sacrificed. I just wish that they would say it the way that it is. Maybe I'll do as you say, tho right now I must say I'm sort of resigned to the dumbness of it all. It is a pity that C/A's marketing is not on a par with the technology of the machine. I may just wait for COMDEX in Atlanta and (if C/A is there like they say they will be) give them hell in person. Doug
