Does anyone now of an Acad386 Rel.11 to Acad286 Rel.10 drawing format
converter. we are using Rel.11 but one of our clients is using Rel.10 and
they are not going to upgrade in the near future.
thanks in advance –

Shame on them!
Laurie – Autodesk has made available a utility called DXFIX that takes a
Release 11 DXF file and converts it down to a Release 10-compatible one. If
you're using Release 11c2 (which you should be!), it's on one of the
diskettes, although there is a brand new version that you can download from
this forum — it's in Lib 9 "What's New", and the filename is DXFIX.ZIP.
There are also commercial programs that work directly on drawing files and go
further back than Release 10. "Stripper" from Eclipse Software in Bellingham
WA is one. If you want info on that one, talk to David Cohn on this forum.
His PPN is 73417,167.

Laurie:
I saw your message and David Byrne's reply to you. CADalyst reviewed a
number of programs that do what you are looking for (see April 1991),
including both DXFIX and The Stripper. I wrote The Stripper. It can read
either a DWG or a DXF file from any version of AutoCAD (R11 through v2.5)
and produces a DXF file compatible with any earlier version (R11 through
v2.1). It's easy to use and completely menu driven.
I'd be glad to answer any additional questions you might have. Or you can
contact Eclipse Software (formerly SSC Softsystems) at 206-676-6175.
