Folks, we are in the process of 'killing' Sigma designs from our production
department and only leaving it to the design deparments, because
we are bringing AutoCAD ( of course ) in replacement of it.
question : is there a cheap ( real cheap ) way on hooking an IBM
or a clone to the RS-232-c port of the SUN and just use it as
a 'smart' terminal so we can exchange DXF files to the SUN…when
I mean cheap I am referring to a cable and some software for the IBM
that will enable it to read and write from the SUN's HD to its
floppy in a ASCII form ( DXF… ) …. any hints WIIIIILLLLLL be
greatly apreciated…!

A program called BLAST (Blocked Asynchronous Transmission) should do what you
want. You'll need a PC version on the PC end and a Sun version on the other.
I know the PC version is available and while I can't confirm the availability
of a Sun version…I know they support a wide range of minis and mainframes.
We have used this program to move files from our DG to PCs'.

Ed – The Sun has a built-in Ethernet connection and runs Sun's Network File
System (NFS) software. All you need is an Ethernet card and Sun's PC-NFS
software for the PC. That'll allow the PC to read from and write to the
Sun's hard disk directly. And, as of AutoCAD Release 9, no format conversion
is necessary for .DWG, .DXF, or any other AutoCAD files — you can copy them
across the network directly.
