#Pagemaker vs Ventura

I would appreciate your advice as to which PDL to purchase: Pagemaker vs
Ventura. I own an AT&T 6300 Plus (286) with EGA board. Currently with no
mouse. I would use it primarily to make posters and short newsletters,
publications of less than five pages. Thanks for your advice. Steve

Having tried both, I think Ventura is by far the superior package.
There is little you can do with PageMaker that you can't do in Ventura — and
alot you can do in Ventura that you can't do in PageMaker. Ventura, which
uses Gem instead of Windows, if faster, too.

We're on the same side of this one, too. I have been using Ventura for
publication of complex technical manuals (with lots of illustrations) and
find that it is FAST, Comprehensive and produces great camera-ready copy on a
PostScript printer (Apple LaserWriter Plus, in my case).
As far ahead as I can see, Ventura Publisher will be the layout and
typesetting package for all my future needs. I sure wish there were some
"math-italic" fonts available from some vendor, or if someone would convert
TeX's fonts, I'd be eternally grateful. I do have to typeset some mathematics
and am using Times-Roman-Italic for this purpose, but I have to manually
adjust the spacing and location of special symbols.
Ventura had enough of what I needed to convince me to switch from TeX for my
latest crop of manuals. It's GREAT!
