Richard,
PKARC is a file decompressor. Most files here have ben Arc-ed, which both
compresses them, and allows bundling several files into one. This helps
reduce downloading times, and eases looking for files as they are all in one
package.
You need to be able to use CLI to use PKARC. Read your manual on the
basics, as you need to be able to use copy, type, cd, dir and PKARC itself.
To use, copy it to the C: directory of your boot-disk. That will make it a
command available at all times. Make sure you either copy it as PKARC, or
rename it after copying it. To use it, you invoke it from CLI thus:
pkarc e <path:filename.arc>
where the path is either the volume (disk) name, or the drive. To direct
where the file it (e)xtracts go to, CD ( change directory ) to there.
As a for instance, you've downloaded thing.arc to a disk named Stuff, and
want the files to go to ram:…
cd ram:
pkarc e stuff:thing.arc (note: if stuff is on drive DF0: then..)
pkarc e df0:thing.arc (as an alternative.)
If you have any specific problems leaving a message here or dropping into
COnference almost any night around 10 PM EST will get you plenty of help.
