I've been considering adding an EMS card to my system, and was wondering if
anyone who has done so already could give details on such things as card
used, potential problems,pitfalls and their solutions, etc. Alsocan a 2nd
serial port be added..I heard somewhere that int 4 , comm1's normal
interrupt, is used for janus stuff & so comm1 uses int 3 which is comm2's
interrupt. I also heard that it's possible to free up int 4 so it may be used
normally. Any info greatly appreciated! Mark J. Morales

Don't know about the com interupts…but my multi-function EMS card
is set up as com1: and works just fine.
It's an Emulex Persyst SB III FastRAM IV card, will add up to 2 Meg
of RAM and will backfill the Bridge to 640K. Has serial, parallel, game
ports, intelligent clock calendar, password bootup (if you want) and other
goodies.
One major problem was getting it configured properly to work with the
JANUS interface (Amiga-PC) since both tired to use E000. JANUS for the
interface and the board for the paged EMS RAM. To make a long story short,
you have to move JANUS to A000, reconfigure the card and then move JANUS back
to E000. For the long version of the story—read the April Issue of
'Transactor for the Amiga'. I've got a column in there where I give a much
longer and more detailed explanation of setting it up.

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to read your article ASAP (Amiga
Transactor is a bit difficult to find in northern NJ though). On a different
subject..the flakey operation of the Amiga partition on an IBM drive stopped
after switching to a different RLL controller card. The one I'm using now
(for the last 3 weeks) is a DTC 5160R. Western Digital's card just didn't
like JANUS I guess.

Western Digital isn't know for the highest quality equipment on PC's
either.
