I bought an audio/video cable to record videos off my amiga onto my VCR.
I was able to watch videos from the VCR on the monitor but when I connected
the cables to the video in jack on the VCR in order to record from the
monitor nothing happened. A black screen with a snowy picture was all that
appeared. Previously I had an audio/video cable in which I could record from
the monitor. It looked exactly the same and I connected to the exact same
slots. Is there a problem with the VCR's recording system or am I doing
something wrong?
Exactly how do you have the cables hooked up? What model Amiga do you
have? What brand of monitor? From the information you gave, I'm unable to
tell exactly what setup you have.
I have an amiga 1000 and a standard Amiga 1080 monitor. I connect the red
tipped A/V cord to the audio slot on my monitor and the White tipped A/V cord
to the video slot on the back of my monitor. On the VCR I connect the Red
tipped end to the Audio in and the white tipped end to the video in. I then
press record on the VCR and run my animation from Animator.
Previously I had done this same thing but my dog chewed my A/V cord. I
bought a new one (which fits exactly the same) and it does'nt seem to work.
All I get is a blank snowy screen.
I don't believe you can get composite video OUT of the 1080 monitor. I
think that if you look carefully at the wiring diagram you used in the past,
you will discover that you had the white tip connected to the video connector
on the Amiga (if you are looking at the back of the Amiga, it is at the
extreme right hand end). Also, I cannot get any audio OUT of my monitor. In
order to record sound I have to connect directly to the stereo out jacks in
the middle of the back of the A1000. I hope this helps.
Neil, to display a picture from the VCR your connections are correct. To
display or tape the Amiga's picture using your VCR you must connect the Video
out on the Amiga *itself* to the VCR.
Greg: I've wanted to ask you about the program Turbo Silver. What kind of
enhancements does it have over Silver? I really haven't had a chance to get
down to a dealer and take a look at Silver itself, and I don't think I would
have the time to sit down and learn all of the features of the program. Do
they have a demo version that I could get ahold of just so I can find out
what its like?

John, the differences and improvements made to Turbo Silver are quite
numerous. Rather than typing them here let me point you to SILVER.TXT in DL2.
It's a text file that describes the new features of Turbo Silver.
I don't believe Impulse has demo copies of Silver, but I may be mistaken.
I suggest you call them directly and find out first hand.
