#ACADCFG variable

I've had this wishlist item for some time. Now that our company is going
to server-based AutoCAD, I want it even more. At present, ACADCFG is a DOS
environment variable which contains the drive and/or path to the ACAD.CFG
file. If we want to use multiple configurations, we can create multiple
directories and run ACAD's configure routine, which creates multiple copies
of ACAD.CFG in our subdirectories. In addition to being able to specify
the drive and path, I would like the ability to specify the file name and
extension. This would let me put multiple configurations in the same
directory.
This could work with a change in the configure routine, which would add the
additional question of asking for the configuration file name.
Alternatively, ACAD could continue to use ACAD.CFG and the
user/installer/integrator could rename the file outside of AutoCAD.
By the way, this would be less important if AutoCAD allowed multiple output
devices or changes in output devices from within the drawing editor.

Dave – Thanks for the wishlist item. If your multiple-configuration
requirement is indeed due to the need to switch among multiple
printers/plotters, you should like what we're doing for R12.

Did you see my post re: color/linetype storage in paperspace? I have been
off-line this week and I'm new to CIS. I'm not sure how long before a
message to me would be purged. I was wondering if r.12 was implementing
this feature.
Rick – If you're talking about an extension to VISRETAIN to include XREF
layer color/linetype info as well as on/off settings, it's something we
need to do. No committment for any particular release, however.
Our message scroll rate varies depending on the traffic load, but tends to
be about 5 days. If a message is directed to you and you haven't read it
by the time it's about to scroll off the board, that message gets
redirected to you via CompuServe Mail, so you shouldn't lose anything
that's meant specifically for you (with your CIS id # in its TO: field).

Great wishlist item: I have tons of CFG directories holding just that one,
lonely ACAD.CFG file. It isn't just output devices that require different
configurations, though – many third party applications have special
requirements (prototype drawings, espcecially).
