#Formatting troubles

HELP!
I have recently been having trouble using the AmigaDOS format command,
and wondered whether anyone else has seen these symptoms:
Whether formatting VIA Workbench's Initialize or CLI's
"format drive df2: name Empty", the system responds normally until it
reaches the "formatting track 1" message then simply quits!
I am using a 2000 with one external drive and it does the same thing if
I try to format an the internal (df0) drive. My local HW service type
says "Just hang in there, wait for DOS 1.3", but I can't help but think
that something else may be sliping, although there are no indications
that there are any other failures involved.
Thanks in advance
for any help.

Jim,
Sounds like a hardware problem…hardly something that 1.3 will fix.
Try unplugging and plugging in the drive cable on both the internal drive
(BOTH ends…drive and motherboard) and the external drive.
Then, as long as you have to top off…pushin on the chips on the
motherboard to make sure they are properly seated.

Thanks, I have tried the cable/chip reseat already. The odd thing about the
problem is that no other disk I/O seems to be effected.
