Ethernet board

I am looking for an ethernet board for my Amiga. I have heard that Ameristar
sells one but I don't have any information about the company. Has anyone heard
about this company or any other company that sells such a beast? Ameristar
apparently sells the board and TCP/IP for $899. That a tad expensive for me,
but TCP/IP may account for the high cost. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
Hi, Doug. I have an Ameristar ethernet board in an A-2000 at work. It does
the job nicely. I can telnet, rlogin and ftp to any system on campus and
around the country. I also have an NFS disk mounted to a Sun, which gives
me ~250 megabytes of disk. Transfers to and from that disk are about as
fast as to/from the 40mb. seagate on the A-2000. I'm waiting for the
DecNet system for the Amiga to become available, and I will be looking at
'Boings' X11 x-windows. -Claude@rover.uchicago.edu
From what I saw demo'ed you won't be disappointed with X. Dale Luck is a
superb programmer. His 2000 running X looked just as good as the VAX
terminal it was sitting next to.
Hi Jon, I'm glad to hear it. We just upgraded a uVAX 3200 to VMS 5.1 with
DecWindows and it is FUN comparing it to the Ami. Almost the same functions
at 10 times the price. 😎 Of course the uVAX IS just a little faster, but
I can wait.
Fantastic. We have a VAX system with about 2.4 gigabytes of storage.
That's what I wish to connect with. It would be great if they came out
with DECNet but I could work around the problem by getting TCP/IP for our
VAX. What I really need is an address for Ameristar. Or a phone number,
or both. I would be quite interested in X-windows as well. Let me know
about that one.
Hi Doug, It should be no problem connecting to the VAX with TCP/IP. We were
using the PD version from Tektronix on the uVAX, with mixed success, but
the Radation Oncology Dept. is using the Wollongon version on their 750
with no problem. (It's just expensive). So I tcp to the VAX-750 and SET
HOST to the uVAX.
