As you seem to be the reigning authority on Bridgeboards I'll direct
this to you. I set up a new A2000HD and XT Bridgeboard last week. The
2000 has the A2091 controller and I have added 2meg of ram to the card. The
drive is a 40meg Quantum. On the Bridgeboard side is a 32meg RLL hard-card
and a multifunction card with Par: and Ser: ports. The jumper on the
Bridge is set to make it boot in monochrome mode. I did not move any
jumpers. The installation went fine and the hard drive booted (Bridge
side) on the first try. All seems well except for one thing. Opening the
Color PC window crashes the machine. I set the PCPrefs to enable both mono
and color windows. Then:
1. Open mono window.
2. Type "MODE CO80" and return.
3. Close mono window.
4. Open color window.
5. Pointer freezes (Curses!)
6. Bang a few keys & buttons for good measure.
7. Bizarre vertical color patterns but no Guru.
8. Sometimes machine needs 3-finger salute; sometimes reboots.
9. Repeat 1-8 with same results as often as needed.
Any clues from you (or any other sharpy) would be greatly appreciated.
We all know how short the warranty is so I would like to get this diagnosed
fast. My dealer says "Huh?". I don't really need the inferior CGA
graphics too badly but it should work. It sure looks like a LOT of work
went into the software for the Bridgeboards. This setup is VERY useful for
me at work. Now one screen give me Amiga, MSDos and Minicomputer access and
I can transfer data as needed.
Get rid of the file :PC/System/SidecarSettings.table. Reboot the
Amiga and then run PCPrefs again…enabling both color and mono windows.
Also, make sure the ROM address is E000. SAVE the PCPrefs.
Now open the mono window..set it up as you'd like it and then give
the CO80 command and open a color window. Set that up as you'd like it and
THEN save the settings.
That _should_ fix you up…it has for others.
I'm not sure what the exact bug is….but getting rid of
sidecarsettings.table and re-doing pcprefs and you window settings has
fixed it in the past.

I'm not sure it's a bug. The file just gets overwritten each time, and if
there's no color window open, no color window settings are saved. I never
heard back from Ray Lewis. Did he finally get his settings saved?
The file may get overwritten each time, but it's read into memory
as you open the window…and some problem may get carried over into the new
file. I don't know about Ray, but I know it fixed things for Ben Williams
among others.

I have a rather bazaar problem with the bridge board. After I set it up,
everything seemed to work ok until the next day. Now I can not get into
the color mode. Typing "MODE COL80" gets me an error message "Invalid
parameter 'COL8'." I have tried putting it into a batch file and many
other things. Tried booting from a copy of the MSDOS floppy and then
finally from the original floppy with the same results. Attempted other
mode commands such as "MODE LPT1:=COM1:" with similar results. I am
suspicious of "setcpu keypatch," keymap and maybe "sidecarkeys.table" but
don't know what to try next. CBM indicated to my dealer that they thought
the BB itself was bad (I find that a bit had to believe since everything
else that I have tried works fine). Any ideas as to what to try while
waiting for my new 2500/03 to arrive?
Try "mode co80" instead of "mode col80".
