I'm TRULY thankful to know there are other critical voices on this forum.
The endless vapid cheerleading is counterproductive. I bet half the
membership ,here, is sleeping w/ "Amy" ./
John,
I assure you that _IF_ I agreed with the particular criticisms I do see,
I would be in there being critical too. I just don't happen to agree with a
lot of it, so I voice the alternative viewpoint. To call it 'endless vapid
cheerleading' shows a remarkable lack of insight into the possible reasons
one might be positive about something that is being criticized. If I were
to use your tactic, I might refer to Mr. Cole's messages as 'constant
pouting and whining'. I consider opinions to be just that; opinions.
Opinions are not factual, irrefutable statements, but are open to
disagreement.

Here here Larry Phillips! Fact is fact. You can't have oppinions about
facts (Quote from the intrepid Peter Schickele). OTOH, you cannot (!)
expect oppinions to be facts, except in the limited context that people Do,
in fact, believe in their oppinions (I believe, in fact ?!?).

You sound like Professor Corey from the beginning of the CBU Multimedia
presentation…

You know, we all probably have pretty much the same goals probably. There's
a difference in attitude, though. Frankly, I like supportive attitudes.
There are times when something a bit negative is more appropriate. Very
often negative attitudes are associated w/ money and business. You seem to
be defending or advocating certain ideas and principles and people in a
very nice way. The poor man who whipped up this frenzy was attacking a
business practice. However it occured, the general populace was mislead by
newtek and maybe they didn't use this forum and the print medium
effectively to correct the misconceptions. Hmmm? As a sysop, I think you
should invite dissent. It has a noble history and it might help make the
forum more like it's historical precedent.
I certainly wlecome dissent and differences of opinion, either as a sysop
or as just a member. I do not, however, think that labelling supportive
opinions as 'endless vapid cheerleading' constitutes either fair comment or
valid argument in support of an opinion.
john,
We all want the Amiga to be the most popular machine around 'cause we think
(rightly or wrongly) that it is the best. Some people feel the best way to
do this is ignore the warts. Others feel it is better to point them out in
the hopes that there is a dermatologist in the house that can remove them
before the REALLY important guests arrive.
What amuses me is the way that some of the "don't see the warts" folks are
so SERIOUS that when someone commits blasphemy they get so hot that they
put words into your messages so they can attack. Usually if it were a
conversation it wouldn't happen, but without the advantage of voice
inflection and facial expressions they miss much of the subtle humor and
ironies and take the messages as important as, say, world hunger or
environmental collapse of the atmosphere. Ahhh…. the joys of diversity…

Frankly, I'm more interested in the "best" than I am its name. Amiga, Mac,
Sun or otherwise. You write well and make a cogent series of points. I
applaud (clap clap) your nerve, for you must know by now that all the
smiling natives really aren't that friendly.
