We have a test program that will pinpoint the MSCDEX problem that Manhole is having. Manhole DOS CD-ROM uses alot of the CD-Audio commands. Typical problems involve the AudioStatus command and the Pause/Stop command. AudioStatus returns a pause bit and start/end addresses of the current audio segment. The problem is that these addresses are supposed to be cleared to zero and the pause bit cleared as well, when the audio segment has completed play. If not Manhole, which is syncing to the audio, thinks the audio is still playing…. William Volk

You'll need a driver that impliments the AudioStatus command as per. the Microsoft specification. Have MediaVision give me a call, if they have any questions about it… Meanwhile (if you can) turn off music/sound (in Manhole) and see what happens…. Sorry for the problem, William Volk

I just noitced this thread and I am having problems with Manhole as well with the new multimedia windows with extensions….does this mean that even though I have the latest, there are yet newer drivers?????? The screen blanks and freezes on me before I get to the manhole intro. screen….help appreciated….thanks…Brick Susko

Let me know what drive you have etc.. Manhole CD's been out since Oct. '90 and strictly conforms to MSCDEX. It has almost 100 audio tracks, unfortunitly some of the drivers out there don't execute the audio status command and/or the get table of contents stuff correctly in this situation. We have test discs and diagonistic programs that can pinpoint the exact problem. The only Multi Media bundle we've heard of that seems to be causing a problem is Mediavision, I've sent them email and I expect we'll track down this one too…. You also might want to run the disc from DOS and not from Windows. So far the following drives have had MSCDEX driver revisions to solve these problems: 1. Hitachi 2. Chinon 3. Future Domain 4. IBM 5. NEC Let me know what's up (your hardware etc…). William Volk

William– FWIW, I have the MediaVision Multimedia bundle and can run Mixed Up Mother Goose, which also uses lots of CD Audio, with no problems. I am, however, using the MSCDEX upgrade (2.21) from the Microsoft Multimedia BBS. –Jim P.S. I have the floppy version of Manhole and my four year old daughter and I both love it. Is a DOS or Windows version of Cosmic Osmo in the works?

Mixed Up Mother Goose doesn't execute the same MSCDEX commands that The Manhole does…. In Manhole all music and audio come from the CD-Audio tracks (except for when you play the piano), in Mother Goose music comes from the music card. You should call Mediavision, they do have the Manhole product… I also sent them email as well… No plans on Cosmic Osmo at this time… William Volk
