Third Party 3D

Martin (and George). I've worked with some of Viewpoint's meshes in 3DS and
they're AOK. Just weld the mesh and assign a smoothing group. I've played
around with the COW.DXF file using Matrox's MG-3D Ultra adapter (realtime
animation/Gouraud shading within acad11). Looks nice. I'll upload my
`imploding cow' experimental 640×480 .flc, if there's any interest. – Greg
I have used some of Viewpoint's meshes in my projects and I like them, but
my only problem was they weren't sufficiently detailed (the camaro, freebie
mesh for example) so I had to build a complete interior for it.
BTW, I believe I read your article last year and that was one of the
reasons I bought 3ds, or at least it reinforced my buying decision. You did
seem pretty enthused about the package.
Martin. I'm pleased the article had some influence on your decision to get
involved with 3D Studio. At the time of the article, I had been working
with GSL's Topas software for quite a number of years. When 3DSr1 hit the
streets, I didn't think that any animation software under $18K could even
hold a candle to Topas (that was the list price at last year's writing… I
believe GSL has dropped the price to around $8k or so now). I was surprised
at how many `goodies' Adesk had packed into a $2995 animation package, thus
my over abundance of enthusiasm in the review. (Obviously, I'm still
`jazzed' over 3DS <grin>).
Regarding the Viewpoint meshes, I also noticed the interior details were
lacking. You might want to contact Viewpoint and show them your updated
meshes. – Greg
