Does anybody out in computer graphics land know of a company who can
process targa files into print using a Colorado Backup tape as the source
of the targa file (Colorado is the only way i have of capuring a large
file) thanks Rock

Image Transform LTD. can make IRIS prints (up to 34" x 47") from TARGA
files at reasonable prices. They have Colorado tape units and the output
looks great. They can also do mounting, laminating, and slides. Highly
recommended.

Rock. You might try out the ARJ compression program (by Robert Jung). It
allows you to simultaneously compress LARGE (very LARGE) targa files
accross multiple volume diskettes (it's lossless compression). Works well
for me in getting those huge flics and prepress renders off my two 344mb
SCSI's. I'm not sure where you'd find a copy of this software, but I can
upload it to the ASOFT forum if you need. (It sure beats sending 80mb
Syquest (sic) carts back and forth to my imaging lab). – Greg
BTW: Regarding compression techniques, has anybody out here had a chance to
work with the Webb compression programs yet? From what I've read, it is a
four pass recursive procedure that can shrink a 1mb file to * 638 bytes…
* I don't know if this is a lossless procedure or if the software induces
artifacts in image files. If it works as good as it * sounds *, I want it!

I have not heard of this type of compression ability. I still would rather

Why not ZIP your file up and use SPLIT and COMBINE? I've done this with
12Meg targa files and the compression is in the 80-90's!

I am not familar with SPLIT AND COMBINE are those Dos commands? Rock
Rock,
split.exe and combine.exe are shareware utilities which are used for
splitting up large files over several volumes of diskettes. Combine puts
the pieces back together again when copying back to hard disk. They are
probably downloadable from CIS somewhere. I have 'em but don't remember
where I got 'em.
