Is there someone who either "formally or informally" represents DeLorme Map
Co. who frequents the CD-ROM Forum?
I seem to remember someone saying that "someone from DeLorme" asked to have
certain messages removed from the Forum.
I am having difficulty using Street Atlas and would prefer "discussing" it
on the Forum so that others with the same or similar complaints would be
able to "jump in" on such discussions.

I have Street Atlas USA v1.0 and am delighted with it. It runs fine under
Windows 3.0 and now under 3.1. Can you give any information about planned
upgrades that might be coming along? I'd like to see things like an
optional latitude/longitude readout, some way of measuring distances using
the cursor, and maybe a reverse zipcode cross reference, so that we could
place the cursor on a map position and get the zipcode for that area.
Anyway, the product is great and I've already used it to find my way to
unfamiliar places and to generate little maplets that I can mail to friends
to show them how to find our place. Greatest CD-ROM product I've ever seen!

Thanks for the positive remarks. The additional features you talked about
may not find their way into Street Atlas USA. We will be introducing other
consumer-level products with some great new features. I'll be sure to post
something when we are ready. The zip code option you suggested is a MAJOR
endevor. I doubt you'll see that one in an off-the-shelf package from
anyone very soon. "but you never know". Thanks. Ken
FWIW, I wrote a program that will accept an address in NY, NY and give you
back the ZIP code for area. No easy feat to program, as I had to get
various street and address possibilities. As an added bonus, I give back
the cross street, location of the nearest Post Office, and give you a map
of the area in the Mac version (there's a HyperCard, standalone Mac, and
standalone DOS version).
With that said, I know that doing something like this for the whole country
is not a trivial task. One company does provide a ZIP inclusion application
given an address for about $300 – call the Melissa Data Co at (714)
661-5885 for more info and a catalog. Very neat stuff – anything you want
to know about zip codes, and they do provide some mapping info as well.
