Can anybody tell me if the SONY CDU-6201 drive is a standard SCSI device?
Or, how can I get ahold of Sony to find out? We bought the drive from DAK,
and they're about useless for technical support. They said "It's sort-of
like a SCSI device"–whatever that means. Thanks.
The customer service numbers for Sony are in file laser3.txt in lib #4.
the Sony CDU-6201 is not SCSI — it has a proprietary Sony interface.
Does anyone know of a SCSI controller for the Sony interface??

You can't use a SCSI controller for the Sony CDU-6201. This drive is NOT
SCSI. You must use Sony's proprietary board.

I see we have a terminology problem here. I have a SCSI "Host Adaptor"
for my computer. A SCSI "controller" is attached to a _device_ not a
computer. I'm looking for a SCSI "controller" for a Sony CDU-6201 which
would then allow it to talk to my SCSI "Host Adaptor".

I must not be understanding this right. I always thought a SCSI Host
Adaptor and a SCSI Controller were one in the same. But either way, the
Sony CDU-6201 is NOT SCSI by any means and will not work with a SCSI Host
Adaptor and/or controller. You need a Sony proprietary adaptor/ controller
— I believe it is the Sony CDB-231 board. Call Sony Optical division in
San Jose — I think they're on First St.

Right, still a mis-understanding. One builds a SCSI controller to talk
to some device (mayhaps a CDU-6201) and THEN everyone with a SCSI Host
Adaptor CAN talk to the device (through your controller).
