Has anyone seem the Supra 9600 baud modems yet? There is someone on my
BBS that swears they are out but doesn't know anyone who has one. I think
he's just getting the backorder stories mixed up with fact.
The Supra v32bis and v32 modems are shipping. Currently, orders are taking
2-3 weeks to fill.

I would have commented more, but mine failed within the first evening of
use, and it has to go back for replacement or repair.

Sorry it died on you. I expected to hear there were some problems with
the first releases. It's not easy being a pioneer in electronics. The
pioneers are the ones with the arrows in their backs.

I suspect it's more a matter of 'nrmal' fallout than design problems. Sure
was nice while it was working!

Supra 9600 baud modems have been available for well over a year. If you're
asking about the 14.4k v.32bis faxmodems, yes, they are also available. My
dealer got them in a couple of weeks ago.

I just picked one up thru mail order. It is great. It does all the work
for you as far as determining what the other modem you are calling can
support in error correction and data compression. I have found a few bbs
that aren't compatible, but not too many. Extremly fast too.
Which Supra do you have? The v.32bis?
Yeah, the v.32bis. I think I got lucky in that they had just got a
shipment in. I called 1800 BE-AMIGA.
I managed to get a Supra V.32bis modem in about 3 weeks. I've had it a week
or so. Works very well indeed. They are definitely shipping. Should be a
very hot item.

Supra is now shipping both the v.32bis and v.32 fax modems.(14.4k and 9600
baud respectively)
There is a large back log of orders for both modems. I believe that the
line is smaller of the 9600 though because of the fewer over all orders for
it. Most people want the 14.4k.

Thanks for the information. Is there some sort of "SysOp" deal for people
that run bulletin boards?

Yes there is a sysop deal, there is a info and application called sysop.txt
in Supra's file section of AtariVend.

I just got the SysOp modem info from AtariVend. The deal looks pretty
good. I'll have to check my finances. Is there a time limit on this?

As of right now I know of no time limit. I'm sure if something changes we
will do so with plenty of notice.

There are many comments floating around about the Rockwell chipset used in
your new 14.4k modem. Most of them negative. The worst seems to be that
the modem will stop sending a DCD signal to the computer's port during a
connection causing the modem to stay online but telling the computer there
in no carrier. What's the scoop on this and other reported problems?

Most of the comments about RockWell chipset which we used have been based
on the fictitious article in BoardWatch. We haven't had a recall and we
are shipping.
I have not heard of any problems with DCD which you described. Most of the
problems people have been having are due to software settings and things of
that nature. These modems are not like your standard 2400 and take a
little more effort to get to work. We are trying to get modems to the
major software publishers so they can add support for the product.

Thanks. I've got some more info on who (a specific software company) is
saying this and their recommendations about the 14.4k modem. I'll try to
find the info (on my HD somewhere) and email it to you. This sort of rumor
and innuendo needs to be nipped in the bud. Your product is fantastic for
the price and needs no (undeserved) negative publicity. If there _is_ a
problem, it needs to be known, but there is no place for unconfirmed
speculation.

I ordered my 14.4 a few weeks ago and hope to have it to play with soon.
I'm concerned, though, with what I'm told has been a decision by Supra
to raise the price of both the 9600 and the 14400 models. Dealer was
speculating that Rockwell had raised the price of the chipset or something.
Is this just all rumor-nonsense, or is there some shred of truth in here?
(Sorry, I realize that this isn't actually a tech-support question, but I'd
hate to have to pay an additional $70 for my 14.4.)
I'd also like to post here my admiration for Supra's commitment to
customer satisfaction. A local sysop had his 14.4 go down about two weeks
after he received it. When he gave Supra his charge-card number, they sent
him a new modem and a box to send back the bad one in. If he does so within
14 days, nothing occurs; otherwise the card gets billed. I think that's
GREAT! His board was back up in a couple of days! Neat!

I have heard of no price increase in either the 9600 or 14.4k fax modems.
If your dealer told you this then it is him who is raising the price, not
Supra.

That's wonderful news! Thanks for the reply. I'm on good terms with the
employees at this dealer, though, and a few of them were upset that they
were going to have to pay more for their personal modems they were buying.
Perhaps they're going through a distributor who is raising the price.
