Animator to Pro Upgrade

Sirs,
I just purchased Autodesk Animator. It is a great product that will do most
of what I am attempting to do (desktop video instructional tapes). I was
origina inally sold a product called Animation Works and I guarantee you,
youhave nothing to worry about (i.e. not even close!). I was wondering
whether Autodesk offers an upgrade price concession to go to Animator Pro.
I sure could use the additional resolution and the flexibility of an API (I
am a systems programmer by day).

There was a limited time upgrade, for registered users of Animator back in
July/August of last year. I'm fairly certain it's over now and Animator was
even replaced by Autodesk's Multimedia Explorer, so you must have bought an
unsold copy. Animator Pro is only sold through Autodesk Authorized
Multimedia dealers for $795 list, whereas Multimedia Explorer (Animator's
replacement) is sold through regular retail outlets for a lot less. I'm
afraid that means you're probably out of luck.
Well Martin, I too have purchased animator recently and now realize that
what I needed was animator Pro. I think there should still be an upgrade
path possible. $799 is quite expensive for a program like this and selling
only through authorized dealers forces people like me to pay retail prices
and still not get all the support I need. If you work for autodesk I would
sure appreciate an upgrade rather forcing me into a totally new purchase.
It is not good practice for customer loyalty.

No, I don't work for Autodesk, I'm just a freelance animator who hangs out
here trying to answer peoples questions. I just checked out some old
literature and the upgrade was for 90 days from the new release of Animator
Pro, so it's definetly out of date, now. Why not try and return Animator to
whoever sold it to you and then shop around for Animator Pro. Other than
that I don't think you have any recourse. You could try talking to customer
service at Autodesk but don't expect anything to come
of it.
BTW, Animator Pro has the POCO language included with it, Animator does
not. It's something like a 'C' compiler which is included with the program
and includes libraries to achieve certain Animator Pro functions.

There are a lot of authorized dealers. Just call a few, explain that you
want Animator Pro, and need a good price. You'll get a deal.
