I called GVP today to ask about Syquest disks, and found out that today is the last day that they support the Series I HD controller. They will not do technical support for you any more if you own a Series I controller. Ah well….they've never been able to answer any of my questions anyway. 🙂 Steve

Great! (words of disgust cross my mind…) Now guess where all those folks'll be calling for tech support — you guessed it, to the software vendors. Regards, Whap!penned… Pat @Oxxi (310) 427-1227

Yeah, I'm pretty disgusted by it too. I'll think twice before getting any more GVP stuff. Steve

Steve: Are you sure you got the correct story? I was told that as of the next revision of the FaastROM software (4.5 or 4.6, I'm not sure) that it would no longer support the older SeriesI boards, I wasn't aware that this meant that GVP wouldn't support the SeriesI boards anymore, only that they couldn't be upgraded to the latest FaastROM anymore. I could be wrong, they might have dropped all support for their older products, but I hope not. -Mike Schiller In sunny Fort Lauderdale

I'm sure I have my story straight. He specifically said that as of April 15they would no longer support the Series I controller card (and threw in that I was "lucky" I called that day).

Steve: That sucks big time! I guess they want everyone to upgrade to the SeriesII boards. And right after everyone does that they'll come out with their SeriesIII boards (or will they call them G-Force boards?) and stop supporting the SeriesII!! -Mike Schiller In sunny Fort Lauderdale

Steve, Did GVP offer to do anything in light of this? Like a cheap upgrade to Series II? If they did this, I could deal with this decision…otherwise, it stinks. Jonathan, Series I owner (and Series II)… – via Whap!

I asked them about that and they said something about a $130 upgrade, but I declined to ask details about upgrading. I did ask what I would get besides support, and he said that the board would be faster….

Steve– Wow! That really stinks! For one thing, I believe that I spent significantly less than that on their competitive upgrade some time back…which shows that they value marketing more than good will towards their customers. They should allow for upgrades at their cost! Jonathan

Isnt there a federal law which requires product support for five years AFTER a product is out of production?? If so complain to the federal tade commision and go for a redressing of your grievance.

I think that the law requires only that parts be made available for five years for any product that is covered under a warranty. Michael ….from the north coast

Federeal law requires that a manufacture provide repair support for product for a minimum of two years from the time the last product is sold. After that, they don't have to do anything although they may get in trouble with the users. (US)…..

Geez, I sure hope not. Don't we have the government poking it's nose in more places than it's needed? We don't need people giving them ideas about MORE places to interfere.
