#Motorola 68050
7 messages in this thread
Has any one heard when Motorola will release their 68050 chip. I thought
that it had already been developed. I am about to purchase a new Amiga and
would like the fastest board available but will wait if the 68050 will be
out soon.
Thanks. Buzz Bies
Buzz,
Even if the 68050 is developed or near completion. It will take a
few years for it to be released and be in widespread use. The 040 took
many years. Get an 040 board now. (there will probably be faster 040's in
the near future, though)

Motorola said there would never be an '050 …
Hmmm… I know some engineers at Motorola who'd like to know who at M said
that. 😉
Wasn't that widely reported? I thought I read it in something like MacWeek
or info world…
I think I read in InfoWorld or Byte that Motorola is bypassing the 050
and going straight to the 060. Supposedly, the processor is such a big
change that it should be labeled 060 to indicate the technological jump.
Just something I came across and am passing on.
I seem to recall reading the same thing. Motorola is apparently going to
bypass the 68050 and skip right to the 68060 instead. I think it was
somewhere in the latest Byte magazine…
