I remember a discussion in this (or maybe another) forum in the past
concerning an exchange as a source for used computer equipment.
Does anyone know of such a place or outfit? If so, please pass alone some
information with address (or location) and phone number.

There are several used computer places in the San Jose area. A few of them
advertise in the give-aways like MicroTimes or Computer Currents.
I can't recommend one in particular, but the standard advice is to test the
actual hardware before you buy from one of these places.
FWIW, I bought a used ATT 7300 Unix PC from WeirdStuff in San Jose. It runs
perfectly.
