Hi Martin, It's cats and dogs today – how was it swimming in the mountains? (or did you go skiing on the beach, I can't remember <g>). I have a small RAMdisk of 256K which I can remove. Before I do so I'm going to try and install on my other machine which is essentially the same but running DOS5 and QEMM386 – just to see if the software is OK. If it is OK then I'll have a go at the DOS 4 m/c. If I've still got problems I'll get back with another message later. regards, Phil

Phil, It was actually swimming AND skiing in the mountains, since the lake was pretty warm, about 10 degrees kelvin <g>, (we could only stand 25 seconds in the water before hypothermia set in) and there was still plenty of snow above 8000'. Try stripping the problem system of all unnecessary stuff, esp. the ramdisk. Martin

Yes indeed – removing the rubbish really does work! I've got through tutorials 1-3 so far – just wish I understood them <g>. Typical UK though, they released v2 yesterday – mine was despatched on Friday – so now I have to wait for the update. You appear to be a bit of an expert (butter up, crawl, etc.) – have you any idea if there is anything published describing the formats of DXF files? I have Fractint and don't really want to buy yet another chaos program so I thought that a little file conversion might be fun….. BTW it's stopped raining. regards, Phil

Phil, I'm not an expert, in fact I'm a relative neophyte to the graphics world having been a business applications programmer for several years. I did buy 3ds and Animator back in March last year and immersed myself in them completely. Much of my supposed knowledge comes from hanging around this forum several times a day, digesting the tips from the real experts, then regurgitating that info to others. Maybe that's how one becomes an expert, I suppose that's how one get's through college! I'm sure you can get info on the dxf file format and others, but I'm not sure how. The developer services dude over here is John Sergneri (phone no. 415/491-8533), so maybe he has a counterpart back on your side of the pond. I'd like to get into developing stuff/utilities myself esp. the IPAS applications for 3dsr2 but I've got to wait until people stop giving me 3ds projects to do, then I'll look into it. Martin
