#Cheaper 3D Studio, R2

Evan,
Features removed that would make it worth a few hundred dollars….
How about r1 with no render to 24 bit files or VTR's – GIF/FLC's only.
That pretty much removes the "professional" features.

Sort of a 3DS-VGA?
I don't know. Seems like you'd also have to disable mesh export too.
Essentially cripple the program so that it's of no use to 3DSr2 users.
My guess is that it's just not worth doing. Why would Autodesk want to
scavenge 3DSr2 sales?
Evan
Evan,
I agree that Autodesk/Yost Group will probbably never do it, but I think it
might actually increase sales. A VGA only version for about $795, to test
drive it might be just what it needs. There are probbably alot of people
that would like to use it but can't afford it and those who don't want to
spend $3K to just play.
I guess it would need a different file format and no DXF out….

My guess is that if Chrysler were to come out with a Viper for $4,000 it
might increase sales too. Might also scavenge sales from their *real*
Viper.
I have never heard the argument that 3DS was overpriced. I have, however,
heard many people say it is underpriced.
Autodesk spent a fortune developing 3DS. Let them make a fair return on
their dollars.
