For quite a while, I've been telling everyone at work how easy it is be productive with the Amiga. Well, I got a chance to prove it, and I'm starting to worry that I might not be able to deliver. I am trying to put together an interactive presentation with AmigaVison version 1.70z. What I want to do is allow someone to select up to five items from a list of fifty items on screen. When an item is selected a score for that individual item needs to be recorded. The objective is to record a running score that can be reviewed when desired, so at the end of the day, I will know that the item "view" received 50 votes, housing 20 votes, transit 77 votes etc. I've been assuming that the best way to set up a system like this is to establish a database with a record for each of my topics. I think that I have done this correctly, but I cannot figure out how to record scores for the individual items when selected. For each of the items, I've set up hit boxes with the "item=response()" function. Any assistance with my problem with be extremely aprreciated. Yes, you do note a hint of panic in this message. Dan, Off the top of my head, it sounds like when you record a "hit" using your "item=response()" action, then you need to increment a variable, such as "transit=transit+1" Everytime someone selects transit, the transit variable will increase by one. So, I'm assuming you've used Dpaint to create the background for your input screen, and in Amigavision you load the screen. Then I'd put a mouse delay icon under the screen, which will halt execution until a mouse click. Use the object editor to create the hit boxes, giving each box a different response, such as a numeric 1-50, or alpha "a – zz" or other unique identifier. then, after the mouse click icon, you'll need if then else statements to identify the value contained in "response()". E.g. your If then else icon would contain [response()="1"] and then to the right have a module icon, a variable icon [view=view+1], and a goto icon to jump to the end of the loop. This would increment your variables after each hit. Around this procedure would be your main loop to limit a user to 5 choices. Further, if you don't want a user to select the same choice more than once, you're looking at building a flag variable into the evaluation which if set, makes the user try again. Finally, if you want the user to change his/her mind, you need to add a hit box that erases the selections and lets them start over. It gets complicated but can be done. To make it simple, you could display the fifty choices, and use a text input variable to have them enter their choices. They could edit it before pressing enter, and then you could use the string functions to parse out the responses, and increment the variables. It all depends on what you want to do. Maybe others will have better ideas. Hope this helps! What's your deadline? Tim

Tim, Thank-you for your suggestions. I've set aside this weekend to really apply myself to AmigaVision and my presentation. The methods you describe seem less convoluted than trying to work with a database as I had been doing. I'll let you know how things work out. The deadline for my project is not until the end of the month, but I need to preview the basic framework of the presentation in a couple of weeks. I've learned that its best to panic early on.
