I'm sure someone will sooner or later, but is anyone planning to post a transcript of Lew Eggebrecht's keynote at WOCA? I had to be at work and missed what was apparently the most interesting part of the show – at least according to some conversations I had with other CBM people. One CBM guy suggested (sacrilege) that future Amigas (if it's even appropriate to call them that) might run Windows NT! The problem here is that while the reason he gave for the upcoming break between low-end and high-end Amigas – that endless backwards compatability is hobbling and the new 'AAA' architecture, which will hit silicon in no less than a year and half will be completely new (and modular) – is entirely valid, it is belied by this reference to Windows NT, which, while multiplatform, comes from a much longer (though less devout) tradition of backwards compatability than do Amigas! So what's up?? Any transcripts forthcoming? Any comments? Incidentally, I asked the same guy what was in the works for the low end Amigas – typified, he said, by the 4000T, which is some machine, two video slots and all, btw. – and he said that there would be certain advances in chip memory and maybe some resolution enhancers in '94, that the DSP card would hit market in July or August, and that basically Amigas as we know them will move forward only in the sense of being cleaned up. The MPEG demo looked pretty nice, too. Also, does anyone know whether the Viper 1230 board is as good as it sounds, or how much it will be?
