#CD ROM sugg ?

Drives that meet the MPC spec (on paper) are: Texel DM-5201, LMSI CM-231,
CD PortaDrive T3201, Toshiba TXM-3301, NEC CDR-73, Sony CDU-7211, Hitachi
CDR-1750S, PLI CD-ROM, IBM External CDROM
They are all SCSI drives. Information compiled from PC mag, 10-29-91. I
know that there are others and as I get more info I'll add to the list. For
example, I know that Panasonic has a drive that is MPC compatible, but I
haven't found the model number yet.
How about the Sony CDU-7205 ? the one that comes with the Laser Library..

The CDU-7205 is the external version of the CDU-535 and received a PC Mag
editors choice. However, it has only an 8K buffer where the current spec
is 64k.

I'm surprised to see you include the NEC-73 drive in your list. According
to the PC Mag article about a couple of months ago, the 73 really choked on
handling animation clips, especially in light of it's 64K cache. Strangely,
the 7205 drive (included in LL) with an 8K cache did just fine.

As I mentioned, I am only quoting the hardware specs. According to the
specs, the Sony is inadequate while the NEC is at the top of the list.
Obviously, the implementation of the drivers and I/O controls are VERY
important. I prefer to buy more for reliability and stability that raw
performance. I would not buy the Sony because it is not up to spec and may
not perform well with future products. I would not buy the NEC because
many have tried it and it doesn't do very well.
