I am trying to decide what sound board to buy and I'm soooo confused should
I buy the soundbaster pro or the pro audio spetrum. I hear that the pro
audio has better sound but the soundbaster has better game support. Any
advice is apreciated. thanks
I ordered the Multisound CD from Turtle Beach. They do comparisons of the
SB Pro and PAS to their Multisound system. Both SB and PAS have FM sounds
that are about as good as a K-Mart Blue light special. The PAS card is much
better at digitizing. You can get the CD demo for $3.00 by writing Turtle
Systems, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, York PA 17404.
Their system uses E-Mu Proteus for internal sound and is very good. It also
runs 4 times as much as the other two cards. The side by side demo will
make your decision easier.
I listened to a live demo at Comdex and was totally impressed by the
difference in the quality of the sound … and totally depressed at the
$995 price tag.
When it comes to sound cards the relationship between price and quality is
one to one. And when you factor in the lower price cards needing an adapter
for MIDI, it makes it even worse.
There is alot of talk in the GAMERS forum about the Gravis UltraSound
(PCVENB forum #14) that will be SB Pro, Adlib Gold and MME (WIN 3.1)
compatable. It will accept CD-ROM audio input directly and have a standard
MIDI port. It will only be missing a SCSI interface. Its supposed to ship
in April for under $200. It seems that it is not vapourware.
While I've decided to wait with CD-ROM, the Gravis US seems to be a good
choice at this time, all things considered. Hope this helps. Ken
