#How to fix VHS cassette

Really dumb question: does anyone know of book or whatever that shows how
to take apart & more important how to put back together <g> a VHS video
cassette. I opened one to fix a snapped off tape and it wasn't as simple a
design as the one a clerk at the video store had open….all kinds of
plastic pieces and a spring that jumped out! I know you guys open every
toy you can get your hands on <g>, so maybe some one knows the secrete.
This is an older commercial tape…maybe design has changed since then.

You are probably better off calling someplace like MCM Electronics and
buying a Replacement Case and just transferring the tape reels over.
Great mind et cetera…John and I came to that conclusion last
night…believe it or not we got it together, but then discovered a little
plastic piece was broken off so the spring can't work…so replacement
cassette to the rescue. But I did learn how to take it apart & put it back
together..good to know when tape or leader snaps.

Glad to help, You could also try Markertek in Saugerties NY for
replacement Tape Cases.
There is an item made by RECOTON – the RECOTON VIDEO TAPE SPLICER (aptly named)
which can solve all of your problems.
It retails for about $45-$50 but it has complete instructions, diagrams and
tools/accessories to repair a broken tape, and how to repair a tape that's
broken off the spool.
It's a must if you have tapes that shred on you as well. You just splice out
the bad section, and record 5 seconds of black over the splice.
I bought mine at TOWER RECORDS, so you might want to check them first.

Last time I did that, I broke apart another cassette very carefully
and learned from it, then used all the pieces to make one whole
cassette. I have piles of old 5-minute demo tapes that make good
fodder for projects like this.
I'm going to be in the market within the year to purchase a Single Frame
Recorder. I'm wanting to get my Lightwave Anims onto tape.
Have any recommendations on which is the best most economical Recorder?
This message should probably be addressed to 'all' but I'm just starting
out with AutoPilot and all there is, is a 'Reply' button.
I'd appreciate if you could point me in the right direction (Sony/JVC
etc..)

I'm not an expert on the latest-greatest in single-framing, but I'm sure
someone else will jump in on this thread – as well as someone who can tell you
how to start a new thread in AutoPilot.
Take a look at the JVC BRS series of VTR's for Single Framing.

I believe the model you want is the JVC BRS622
As far as Single frame recording it depends on the format that you
want, BetaSP, 3/4",S-VHS,HI-8,VHS, ect… I am not an expert, since
I don't own one but I have been looking at them, and have played
around with the SONY EVO-9650 HI-8. This deck works very nicely and
doesn't require a single-frame controller if you are laying down
frames from say, Lightwave. There are other decks like the AG-7750
S-VHS, I haven't used it but have heard good this about it.
As for Auto-Pilot, to address a message to All or to start a new
thread you could `reply' to a message and instead of `save'ing the
message you can select `Originate'. This will give you a requestor
where you can change any info like Subject:, To:, ect…
Opps…haven't checked in here lately.
I did the same thing…so now I know how NOT to break it apart <g> as well
as put it together..
