A1200 & 1960 problem??

When using the DBLNTSC high res no flicker monitor driver with my A1200
and a 1960 monitor, the workbench is set to the right, with about 1.5
inches of unused space to the left. It cannot be centered, although using
the H.PHASE control on the front of the monitor and overscan in the PREFS
drawer help a little bit but not much. I contacted my dealer, they told
me that this just happens with the 1960 monitor, and that they would
exchange it for a 1950 monitor that wouldn't do it.
Can anyone confirm this info so that I know if the dealer is being honest
with me or not?

Drag the VGAOnly icon out of the storage area (monitors drawer) and put it
in devs/monitors. Reboot.
You can then center your screen.

Silly as this might sound, would an A1200 work w/ a 1084s?
Not silly! Yes the 1200 will work fine with a 1084, (you just wont be
able to get the new flicker free modes.)

Yes it will work fine.
You will just not be able to use any mode that is beyond 15.5 khz video.
You will still be able to view and use all of the new color modes.

Rick,
Put the "VGAOnly" driver in your Monitors drawer. This should solve the
centering problem. Commodore is supposed to have new monitor drivers and a
new Overscan preferences program out to cure this the right way but most
dealers don't seem to have them yet.

Thanks, That fixed worked. Are the new monitor drivers and new Overscan
preferences program something that only dealers will have, or will it be
uploaded to places like CIS?

I saw a message on GENIE that indicated that there is a new release of
monitor drivers that allow you to have automatically centered screens in
ALL modes. Apparently it is a one disk revision that dealers should have
or be getting. That's all I know at the moment, but you might want to
call a couple of mail order dealers first, like Safe Harbor or Creative
and see if they have it…(sometimes they get things way ahead of the
local folks)
Hope that helps…and avoids the hassle of a monitor exchange.

Commodore has a set of updated monitor drivers that your dealer needs to
get. I've got the edge of my overscan screen about a millimeter away from
the left plastic on my 1960.
It's a software fix, not a hardware fix.

Thanks, someone else mentioned this to me also, I've talked to two amiga
dealers in my area about the new drivers and they looked at me with blank
stares, I'm going to try a third tommorrow. If you have them, then I can
at least insist they are available and maybe get them to call and ask
<G>.
BTW, I finally found a copy of your book, I've already picked up 3-4 tips
that have helped me customize my setup.

I have a NEC 5FG. I can get the image to the top and the bottom of the
screen in any mode that works on the monitor, but the left and right edges of
the screen are over an inch out of reach – on each side. This is really
frustrating since I splurged so much on a monitor.
I have a 1200 that I got at the end of January. Do I just
need a new driver? For dblNTSC modes, I've stretched text overscan
as far as it'll go, and for all modes I've stretched the monitor's
adjustments as far as they'll go. Everything is fine vertically, but
dblNTSC is bad horizontally and Multiscan productivity modes are
horrible horizontally since they don't even have text overscan to
help a little.
Also, what's the deal with Super72? It's a joke mode! The AGA chips
can only output up to 31.44kHz.

Actually Super72, is a 24Mhz mode… You got me why they call it 72.

Check out the vertical refresh rate on the Super 72 modes- 72Hz. That's
where the name comes from.

It's interlaced though, so it's effectively 36MHz. And horizontal is
20something, which just about nothing does. Pain.

Super72 referes to 72Khz VERTICAL frequency. The 24Khz is the horizontol
frequency…

Contact your dealer. Commodore has an update disk available that includes
new monitor drivers and a new overscan prefs editor that will fix the
monitor problems. However, many dealers seem to not know about this.
Also, make sure that you've got the VGAOnly icon in your DEVS:Monitors
drawer.
My dealer knows nothing of this 🙁
I wish C= would ditribute it here.
It's not as if I'm going to run it on a PC 🙂

Not yet. I contacted my dealer about that update disk – he still has to get
back to me. I don't have arrows on my overscan editor screen, so I guess I
need it. What really puzzles me, though, is that if I squeeze the image on the
monitor down all the way with the monitor's controls, the actual used
screenspace is very small, but almost all the screen is grey – my Workbench
background color.

My dealer said he installed the upgrade overscan editor & drivers. I don't
have arrows so who knows, but the screen looks much better. I had a sick
4000 so it's hard to judge what was the problem. I have a 4000 w/Sony 1302
monitor and it's still a little off center & doesn't fill the whole
screen. I have about 1/4 inch grey on left side as well as about 3/4 inch
black & 1/2 bk on right.

Nope. I know some dealers have received it. (Brent Gray from Armadillo
Computers has it.) I don't know how the dealer rep network is handled now,
so I don't know what to suggest. All I know is the disk is available, and
some dealers have it.
Also, newer machines are shipping with the updated drivers. Check Overscan
prefs and see if it's added arrows for shifting the screen. If so, that OS
has the new drivers.
