Just wondering if anyone has any idea when the pc version will begin shipping
Dan, glad you asked! Imagine PC will begin shipping Tuesday. I just got my
copy and haven't even had time to run it on my pc. I'll post some info this
weekend once I've given the program a test drive. –Rick
Rick, glad to hear that it is just about to ship.
This is version 2.0, right? Have any of the bugs been fixed? Have there
been any improvements to it? I understand that moving an existing program
to another platform isn't easy but it would be nicer if it were a little
more capable then Imagine 2.0(Amiga).

Tony, there are no significant changes between the PC and Amiga versions.
However, Impulse is cranking on 3.0 now and there are some MAJOR improvements
coming! Stay tuned! BTW, Imagine PC is very cool. Believe it or not, it is
EXACTLY like having an Amiga on your pc! If you place both monitors side by
side, you CANNOT tell which is which! –Rick
But does the PC version of Imagine support 24 bit iff's and anims? And
what about textures? I guess Essence if a dead product for the PC version,
but did Impulse include any new textures with the PC version. Is it
compatable enough that you can take a staging file from your Amiga and
render it on the PC?
The PC Imagine reads 24bit IFF, TIFF and TGA. It writes Impulse's movie format
anims and Autodesk FLI format. All the standard Imagine textures are included
in the PC version. I'm sure Steve at Apex can easily port his Essence textures
to the PC. –Rick
Will PC imagine run on a Lowly 286?? I'd like to fiddle a bit on my
cousin's machine before commitiing to a 486 DX. Also will the PC version
accept projects, models etc from the Amiga version? Also what 24 bit color
format does PC imagine use? Targa,Tiff,PCX????? Thanx for the help Rick.
Sorry, Imagine PC will not run on a 286. If you wish to run it on a 386, you
must have a math coprocessor. Yes, you may use Amiga objects and projects to
render on the pc, but you must be careful to name objects and paths carefully
so that they adhere to MS-DOS conventions. I expect that Impulse or some other
kind soul will create conversion utilities shortly. Presently, Imagine PC
renders in Targa, TIFF and Impulse formats. –Rick Rodriguez
Thanx for the info Rick. Hate to be a Scootch but any idea of a SPEED
Comparison of a 486 DX50 to say an A4000 rendering the EXACT same Image in
Impulses Format???? I'd like to use a Network of 486's for rendering
Imagine Scenes if they aren't significantly slower than the same scenes on
a 040 based Amiga since the 486's are available for less than an 040
equipped A3000 or a A4000. Might make a Viable Business if I got a
Storefront and a load of PC Clones and rendered other folks Scenes for a
fee.
As far as I can tell, the pc is about the same speed as my 68040, 28Mhz. The pc
I use is a 486, 33 Mhz. But to tell the truth, I haven't done much with either
program in the last week, 'cause I was up at WOC in New York. –Rick
Thanx for the info on Relative Speed. Sorry I missed ya at WOC, I was
there Saturday from 1 till closing, oggling everything and then drooling
over Lightwave 3D.
