Don, PMJI, s-video (y-c) out of the targa+ into the betaSP would be better than composite. Most BetaSP decks I've seen will accept s-video (y-c) in – although it won't be as good as full component but costs considerably less.

To Yost Gp. and Martin Foster: Thanks for your suggestions. I've been looking at the PVW-2800 which does have Y/C input. The BVW series does not per my spec sheets. PVW-2800 is affordable and I believe has DUB out to U-matic. Also, I've been told to check out Soft VTR to replace the DQ-50P for control. Any response from current users of this software would be appreciated. I've decided to make the upgrade this year but haven't figured out how to pay for it yet. I hope this will be the last format change for me until … until …. HDTV??? God help us all.

Don, glad to be of assistance. The PVW-2800 is a great way to, I think. To get full quality out of it you'd need a transcoder which can be had for around $2k and up, last I heard. That allows you to do full component input, but as I said, I know people who have used Y/C input coming out of a targa+ 16/32 with decent results.
