Phil: Animator Pro and 3DS are two totally different software packages. While it is possible to do 2D animation in 3DS, you're really better of with AAPro. Also, if you use 3DS without AAPro, you'll wish you had AAPro. The ideal combination is 3DS with all of the IPAS routines, AAPro, a good titling package such as Inscriber or RIO, and an image processing/paint package such as PhotoStyler or Photoshop. In a professional environment, every package gets used extensively! I hope this helps! Tom Rzonca

Tom, I've been wondering…what do you use AAPro for in conjunction with 3ds? I don't know anything about AAPro. I just assumed that you would use it for titling but your message indicates that one would also want a titling program as well as 3ds and AAPro. Can you give me an example of how you would use each of these programs in one production? tjl

Timothy: AAPro comes in real handy for producing both still and animated texture, opacity, reflection and bump maps, all of which are integral elements of any 3DS production. AAPro is quite a capable paint program as well, although you're limited to only 256 colors. If you want to do computer-based presentations, then perhaps the most important feature AAPro gives you, when used in conjunction with 3DS, is the ability to edit FLC files created in 3DS. This is very important when you work with animation! AAPro also comes with a number of useful utilities for doing things like file conversion and stand-alone animation scripting and playback. I recommend a titling package like Inscriber or RIO because the fonts in AAPro are not professional quality. Inscriber and RIO produce fonts like what you see on the 6 O'clock News. A 24-bit image processing/paint package is also recommended because AAPro only supports 256 colors. I hope this helps! Tom Rzonca
