#Render Problems

Our setup here is 3dstudio on a 486 with plenty of memory, a Targa+ card and
DiaQuest 232 controller talking to a SONY EVO-9650. Help Please!!!
PROBLEM:
3dStudio's "record-to-VTR" function appears to not be working correctly. This
function does not load images into the frame buffer. It does however, control
the transport fine. "view" images works just fine. Can use DiaQuest "anitape"
to record just fine to tape (only tga images tho). Can use all of the Targa
utilities with no problems. Have set all environment variables correctly.
What gives? How come I can "view" images on the Targa+ from within 3ds, but I
can't send them to tape via the "disk-to-VTR" routines? Jeez. Is there a
simple answer or what?

Yes there is a simple answer to this. I had the exact same problem with a
DQ50P VO-5850 and targa+ 16/32 in 512x486x24Bit. The targas get accessed from
the hard drive but never reach the frame buffer. right? Here's what I did to
fix it. I found I had the wrong driver set to the RDPADI set statement in my
batch startup for 3ds. Use the RD****.exp for RDPADI and RC****.exp for
RCPADI. ( If you need the exact names of these files let me know, I'm at the
office and 3ds machine is at the studio across town. Can't remember the exact
file names but they come with Targa+.) Then erase the 3dadi.cfg file in 3ds
directory restart 3ds and answer the questions separate monitor for RDPADI and
combined for RCPADI. When doing record or disk to vtr configure your 3ds for
RDPADI. You are using two monitors, right? Results: you should get
simultaneous render status screen on your VGA monitor and graphic on the NTSC
monitor. If the NTSC monitor displays yuo will have video for the VTR! Thanks
again to all those who helped me with this same problem a month ago. Now I can
give something back!

I don't know where you live, but I would sure buy you a beer right now. We
were just flat stuck. I guess I should have read page 50 of the small manual
better. Maybe the "note" should be in 24 point.
Anyway it now works!!! We are getting through to the tape for each
frame. Thank you very much!
James.
You are the third fix for this problem in a month. Maybe the installation
manual could be better written. G.Y. take note for docs for future releases of
3DS. We certainly didn't get help from Diaquest or True Vision not to mention
our dealers. Thanks for this forum!
Don, you hit the nail right on the head. Back when I was in tech support, that
was a common problem. People were using the wrong driver. Just use the rdpadi
driver and that should do it for you.
