I'm looking for a way to get a TrueType font to work with PDraw 3.03.
Seems the only way to do it is to convert the truetype to adobe then
covert the adobe back to PPage.
Any one know of an Amiga or MS-DOS program to convert the truetypes?

Since PDraw 3.03 will only read its own PDfont or GD's CGFONT format you would
have to convert TT fonts directly to that format. Currently I am not aware of
any program that does this. Converting them to Type 1 fonts first would be your
best option…but note that most TT fonts on CompuServe are also available as
Type 1 fonts so that may cut down on your conversion process.
IF you could convert TT fonts to WB2 or WB3 outline fonts PDraw3 could read
those as well…but agian I don't know how you would.
Unless Soft-Logics TypeSmith handles TT fonts.

Goes back to a CD-ROM again……I'm working on one now and the guy wants
me to use this one TT font.
He also wants a word written as if were make by lipstick. Is there away to
get that effect (a font maybe??) on PDraw?
The point I'm at now is: Raid my mother's purse, scan it, and overlay it
over the rest of the artwork. But I don't think I will be able to get the
quality I'm looking for. Maybe using trace on the bitmap scan will be good
enough.

Alltype on the PC is supposed to be able to convert from TT to
Intellifont (CG) or Type One if thats any help.

Dave, you might want to POP over to the DTP forum and scan their libraries and
ask if anyone has a lipstick font. Remember most TT fonts are available in Type
1 format as well.
Your scanning of the actual lipstick'ed word and then tracing it with TRACE
would probably work fine. I did this once with a jigsaw puzzle outline and a
magic marker word.
Once converted in TRACE to a PDRAW clip it was easy to change to suit my needs.

Unfortunately, TypeSmith doesn't handle TT fonts and won't unless it is added
at the system level. (TT licensing is so high that we'd never earn it back.)

What you do, using a PC or Bridgeboard, is convert them from TT to Type 1
using Font Monger (or a similar program), then run the Type 1 fonts
through FontManager. This works fine.

Sorry, I don't have their 800 order number, but they do have one and you
can get it from 800 information.
There are a lot of coupons out now for a half-price special. ($75) (I
think I got mine from the Corel Draw package.) So you can probably talk
them into this special price. It's worth it, at any price. Fontographer is
about the same thing and costs from $3-400 dollars.

Yes, that would work but that is assuming that you have a PC at hand and want
to spend the money on the Font Software.
By the way, what is the system requirement for Font Monger?

I have the Windows version and am running it on a 386 Bridgeboard. I would
assume the DOS version will run on just about any configuration. The
program itself is quite small.

There is a program for DOS and Windows called Alltype. It will convert
fonts on a PC platfrom from any of about 15 different formats including
several iterations of TrueType and Type 1 on MACs and PCs. The converted
TT fonts that I have done to Type 1 have worked about 85%-90% of the time
in PageStream. I could probably improve on that rating if I manually
manipulated the converted fonts.

Font Monger will do it. There are some special $75 deals on it now, if you
call the company direct. (Sorry, I can't find the number, but it is an 800
number, and they do run ads.) I got the coupon in Corel Draw.

Dave, I don't think there's anything in the PD that can convert from True
Type to Adobe 1 reliably. Plus – there's LOTS you can do with that
program. You can redesign fonts (This is especially neat, because you can
doctor up fonts for your special purposes);; you can convert to Adobe 1,
2, or 3; you can convert to CG. The Type 1 fonts you get from True Type in
Fontmonger can be put right into FontManager in ProPage or will slip
directly into PageStream.
I don't think you'd regret the purchase for a minute.

It all comes down to my CD-ROM "fund"…I spent $2000 on the pre-mastering
software, I need a dedicated system with 2 gigs, $4000 right there.
Just updated prodraw to 3.03, and I'm sure I'll have to buy a bunch of
little BS software by the time I'm done. So if I'm using this program for
one job….why buy it? I need to sell ALOT to make up $6000 and start
turning a profit, so everything counts.
And with most people leaving 90% of the artwork upto me, I don't think I
will use it in the future.
It's going to have to do ALOT more then make letter prettier, or change
the format for $75

The font is called STEEL, and it is public domain.

I don't think there are any TT converters that are shareware or PD.
Development kits are way too expensive and licensing is a joke.
