Is the Amiga 1000 of the same quality as the Amiga 500? Will it run the same software and is it as expandable? Rich Rice

Rich, Yep, the primary differnences between the A500 and the A1000 are that the A1000 has a detachable keyboard, and it doesn't accept the 1MB Agnus. It has the same ports as the A500, except it doesn't have the internal trapdoor slot. The on-the-side expansion port is on the right instead of the left, but A500 periperhals will work there as well. (They just end up with the back facing the front. 😉 Hardware-quality wise the A1000 is much better-made than the A500. The only real down-side is the inability to add 1MB of Chip RAM.

Doesn't the A1000 not have Extra_HalfBrite graphics capabilitiy? Not a popular mode, but I can think of one game that runs in EHB…. Scott from Ioway

Early A1000s did not have EHB (because it didn't exist yet). The later ones do. Any A1000 may be upgraded to EHB by upgrading the DENISE chip. I believe that you need a rev 6 or later. Chris

Scott, Some A1000s didn't have EHB chips. This one has the EHB Denise.
