Sorry for the delay in replying to your messages. We've been debating
on offering competitive upgrades to owners of other commercial disk
utility packages, but hadn't finalized the price until now, hence the
delay.
We've decided to offer competitive upgrades to Quarterback Tools
Deluxe for $50.00 (plus shipping & handling). To take advantage of
this, a person must also send in the master disk from a competing
commercial package (such as AmiBack Tools). In return they will get
a full Quarterback Tools Deluxe package. This is a 60% discount over
the $125.00 retail price.
Unfortunately, in your case since you already own Quarterback Tools
1.x, you are better off getting the direct upgrade since the $40.00
upgrade price from Quarterback Tools 1.x is even less.
Again, I understand your frustration in purchasing AmiBack Tools only
to find out that Quarterback Tools Deluxe will be shipping a month
and a half later. However, we have a policy of not announcing
products until we have a fairly firm ship date (although, for the
last couple of months, we've been telling people it would be "real
soon"). This is so that we don't put all of our users into a waiting
game, and we feel it is the best policy all-around.
James,
Thanks for the reply and I do understand your position. However,
just for the record, I was never told that QBTools Deluxe would be
shipping "real soon". That was the EXACT reason for my frustration.
Just a day or two before the show when I asked Randy, he gave no
indication that your product was even close to completion. If he had
said "real soon", I would NOT have purchased AmiBack Tools. Also, I
don't care that your product might not ship for 1-1/2 months. I was
willing to wait, since I do have the original QBTools. The issue was
that I have been asking about the upgrade for over one year and I
started to think that it might be vaporware. So the issue isn't when
your product will actually ship, but the fact that an announcement
was made that the product does exist. The announcement came just a
few days after I bought the other program. So the frustration isn't
because your product will be available two months after I bought the
other product, but because after inquiring for over a year I became
aware that your product really does exist just two days after my
other purchase.
I'll wait for the upgrade notice before I decide what to do. Could you
tell me if there is anything that QBTools Deluxe does that AmiBack Tools
doesn't do?
Thanks so much.

Dominick,
re. Quarterback Tools Deluxe vs. AmiBack Tools
Well, obviously I'm going to be biased, but here goes:
Just about every thing AmiBack Tools does, Quarterback Tools 2.0 does
also (except for the disk wiping stuff, but we include a separate
program for that). Of course, there is no way for me to compare how
robust AmiBack Tools is, or how thorough its disk checking is, but
Quarterback Tools 2.0 builds upon two years of experience with the
original Quarterback Tools–it does everything the original one did
and much more. And in addition to the ability to analyze and repair
disks, salvage files from disks, optimize disks, and recover deleted
files, Quarterback Tools 2.0 includes a full-blown disk editor (for
advanced users). We also feel that Quarterback Tools 2.0 is much
easier to use than AB Tools. There are also several extras that AB
Tools doesn't even begin to do, such as additional features when
using Workbench 2.0 (or 3.0), and a full AREXX interface.
We also include several very useful programs to round out the
package, things that AmiBack Tools doesn't have at all. Quarterback
Tools Deluxe includes: Locator (a file finder), Replicator (a disk
duplication system), Encryptor (a encrypt/decrypt tool), Disk Eraser
and File Eraser (security programs), Keystroke Finder (a keyboard
utility), System Mover (a tool for moving fonts and system files),
and Brain Cloud (a disk protector).
In short, we feel that Quarterback Tools Deluxe is far superior to AB
Tools.
James,
Okay, you've convinced me. 😎 I'll bite the bullet and order my
QBTools upgrade. Did the upgrade notices go out yet? Do I have to wait for
the notice or can I upgrade by calling now?
Thanks.

Dominick,
The upgrade notices have gone out, but you can order by phone right now if you
like. You don't need the upgrade form, and you don't need to send in your
master disk.
