#RKM – The Latest Version

I would like to purchase an up-to-date set of ROM Kernal Manuals. I own an
A4000. Briwall offers a set, the version of which is, I think, 2.04. My OS is
alleged to be 3.0.
What is the most current edition of the RKMs, and if it is 2.04:
a. How do I go about studying new graphics modes and blitter operations
that pertain to my computer? b. Any rumors that a new edition of the RKM
is on the way soon?

The last time I checked, they hadn't even released the developers kit for 2.1
for sale to the public, so I doubt there are 3.0 RKMs yet. You might want to
ask in CBMSER, though it may not do you any good considering Commodore's
policies on letting people know what they're doing.

You can get all the latest doc (up to and including 3.1) if you were to
become a certified developer. Cost is $100 for the first year, $75 a year
thereafter. You'll receive the bi-monthly AmigaMail dev articles and have
access to not yet published documentation.

But I thought you had to prove you were developing a commercial product to
becomre certified?

You have to show that you do program — not that you're a "lookie-loo" wanting
to get inside info. You don't necessarily have to have written or are
currently working on a commercial product — PD or shareware will probably get
you in.
Thanks for the data, Steve. I qualify for that easy. The main reason I'm
interested is I want the >right< information to develop with.

Relative to acquiring the latest docs, I haven't the nerve to hold myself
out as a developer. I program strictly as a hobby. Do you know of any other
material that it may be worthwhile holding my breath for? "In the Beginning"
there were instructionals from people like Rob Peck and Sheldon Leemon. The
RKMs were required only by the pros. I could easily make do with a general
discussion of the topic of the AGA graphics with illustrations of its
functions. It'll be an insult if the Germans beat out the locals YAT by
introducing another Abacus tome. 😎
